Christmas Lecture Ogilvy Health

8 December 2020

A great pleasure to discuss the artwork undertaken as the Artist in Residence at the Baxter Lab, Genome Damage and Stability Centre, School of Life Sciences, University of Sussex - an international centre of excellence for research into how DNA is replicated and maintained.

We are thrilled with the wonderful feedback from Ogilvy Health: 'A huge thanks to Samia, James and Jon. What an incredible talk, I don’t really know what to say other than truly fascinating and inspiring.' Matthew Ireland PhD, Managing Partner, Group Client Services

'I love the idea of ‘drawing’ from the cellular noise, a dialogue between the visible and invisible, unravelling the coded information. James’s work really brings out the dynamism of the cellular and molecular processes with references to battlefields and molecular showers. It reminds me of just how much energy there is at a biomolecular level, and how much chaos too. Much more ‘real’ than the tidy medical illustrations we are so used to seeing.' Sue Guthrie, Head of Scientific Services

'James allows scientists to see for the first time what they have been working on'

'Prepare to enter a new world'

'James uses his camera like a brush'

'The micro world painted with light'

'First off, the pieces of work were fabulous, even on a small screen with poor internet…I could really see things in some of the images and they were very moving. It also gave me ideas to try and some inspiration. I liked how they divided the commentary between the three of them.' Mark Lane, Senior Art Director
