27 January 2023
Still Points & Sea Beams by British artist James Dean Diamond has been nominated for the Prix Pictet - the prize is awarded to the photographer who has produced a series of work that is both artistically outstanding and presents a compelling narrative to the theme of the award, this year's cycle is Human.
Still Points & Sea Beams is a research project on the dialogue of art, science and politics – and the result of a 4-year Artist Residency with curator Samia Ashraf at the Baxter Lab, School of Life Sciences, University of Sussex - an international centre of excellence for research into how DNA is replicated and maintained. It has been a tremendous privilege to collaborate with the genomic scientists and reflect upon ideas relating to life cycles of damage, mutation and regeneration.
