25 April 2023

Huge thanks to Professor Ben Burbridge for taking the time to review James and long-term collaborator, curator Samia Ashraf's research practice. An inspiring afternoon, full of insight and critical thinking.

Ben Burbridge has extensive experience developing projects in partnership with museums, galleries and arts organisations, which have included the Science Museum, The Photographers’ Gallery, National Science and Media Museum, and Brighton Photo Biennial. Ben has written extensively on photography, politics and contemporary art - and presented his work internationally at Tate Modern, the Hayward Gallery, Sotherby's Institute, Museum Folkwang and Palais de Tokyo.

Between 2014-2021, Ben was founding Co-Director of the University of Sussex’s Centre for Photography and Visual Culture, aimed at fostering inter-disciplinary dialogues around visual culture, often through work with external institutional partners including the BFI and Barbican. As the Academic Lead for the University's Turner Prize Partnership with Towner Eastbourne and, from 2021-2024, led the University's Festival of Ideas, initiating its ongoing partnership with Brighton Festival.
